Abstract

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease(KFD), also known as Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is characterized by cervical lymphadenopathy and prolonged fever. This is a self-limiting disease that has an unknown etiology. The most common symptoms include fever, cervical lymphadenopathy, and pain but nonspecific symptoms such as joint pain, nausea, chills, diaphoresis and diarrhea may also be present. Its clinical course is generally benign, symptoms including fever disappear within several months without special treatment. So, there are no specific recommended treatment for patients with KFD. Many studies had been reported the effect of corticosteroid in patients with prolonged fever and systemic symptoms. Our patient also showed good response to steroid, but we can’t decrease the amount of steroid. When we tapered steroid, the disease was relapsed. Some study reported effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine(HC) in patient with KFD. But there were only few cases ! in children who were diagnosed with KFD and treated with HC. Herein, we report a first case of successful treatment with HC in a 17-year old boy with recurrent KFD dependent to steroid in Korea
